‘Lost without words’ is the phrase that comes to mind when I think of not being able to pick up a book and read like I used to, and the impact this is having on my facility to retain information and hold a conversation. Below this photograph is an adaptation of the original to create the impression of an old Persian rug. A clinician at the Oxford Eye Hospital shares sight loss information with less daunting analogies. Toward the end of a consultation, he told me my sight is like a rug, patches are beyond repair and in other places the thread is wearing thin. I dedicate this photograph to him.
