On one of my walks, I visited the grounds of a Roman Catholic Church in the Cotswolds and decided to return at night with my camera. Before I did, I contacted the parish priest. His response was “to take the shots you want”. This phrase remained with me the night in sub-zero conditions I chose to photograph the crucifix on the garden wall and hoped to achieve an impression simply felt in the dark.
